prisoner resettlement project

 


Socio-legal volunteering at VGSS isn’t just about huge commitments to change the world. It’s just as important to change one person’s world. So, we want to highlight an inspirational project that is helping prisoners a positive and sustainable life have after release.

We are looking for aspiring lawyers as volunteers to support prisoners resettling back through practical support with empathy. You as a volunteer will be working with prisoners after release in the community to help them continue their engagement with society with ease and encourage them to promote social inclusion and acquire support from other organizations and specially raising awareness around the specific needs of their families and to prisoners themselves.

You will be given 3 day training (after an initial interview and completion of administrative procedure) about, how to acknowledge positive qualities and skills, develop links with local institutions a possible meet with the prisoner in custody before release from prison and how to record information about them, the behaviour, compliance and engagement.

All we expect from you is that you’ve the willingness to help others, confidence to communicate and potential to address a prisoner with a nonjudgmental, friendly attitude. We would appreciate if you can provide any satisfactory references. You will be provided honorarium of RS 850/- per day from the commencement of project for 5 working hours with full induction and regular supervision by senior colleague to support you in the role.
